First of all, can we get real? Building a successful online business isn’t an easy thing to do. If it was, everyone would be doing it. But the facts are that only about 2% – 3% of people who try to start an online business will succeed. And there are several reasons for that. But before we get into that, let’s discuss the first ingredients of a successful online business so you will know how to piece one together. Think of building your business like building a house. The first thing you do when building a house is you must lay the foundation. Without a good foundation, nothing else matters.
Build a Successful Online Business – Step 1
So let’s start with the foundation. If you want to build a successful online business then you need to offer a product or service (or both) that provide value to people. So often I see people starting off on the wrong foot by promoting garbage, and that’s a kind word for it. The product or service you market must be something people want and need. It has to be something that solves a problem that they have, and at a price that they feel is worth the money they spend. If you can’t feel good about putting your stamp of approval on the goods and services you are offering, then don’t do it. And if they aren’t something that you own yourself, and can vouch for, then how credible can you truly be with your prospects? Integrity is something that MUST be earned in this business. Don’t throw it away trying to earn a quick buck.
Build a Successful Online Business – Step Two
Once you have identified the WHAT that you want to promote (the foundation), then you need to build the walls. of your business. A good sales funnel represents the walls. This is probably where a majority of people fail in their business. They don’t take the time to research a good sales funnel, or to build one themselves. This is especially true of people just starting out. As with most online businesses, they will provide affiliate links that one can use to promote their products. And most new people are instructed to start using their affiliate link to get sales. This sounds on the surface like a great plan and it’s certainly the path of least resistance, but the truth is this is probably one of the worst mistakes a person can make. Why? The fact is that EVERY person who signs up to promote the product is given an affiliate link, and all are instructed to use the same sales funnel. After a short while, the sales funnel is so saturated that potential prospects simply tune it out because they have seen it multiple times. The likelihood that someone brand new will get any sales goes down with every passing day. Taking the time up front to implement a good sales funnel is essential to building a successful online business.
Build a Successful Online Business – Step Three
The third and final piece to building your business (your house) is putting on the roof. The roof is what protects what is underneath and is what causes the outside elements to stay outside. It is the missing ingredient that can cause your business to fail miserably or soar into the stratosphere. It’s something that can’t be qualified or quantified by anyone else but you. Do you have any idea what it might be?
Most people would tell you that the third piece of the puzzle is TRAFFIC, and learning how to generate traffic to your sales funnel. Because unless you can get eyeballs on your sales funnel, you can’t generate sales.
But the truth is it goes much deeper than that because no one else can make you do what is necessary to learn what you need to do to be successful. Nobody else knows your heart, your soul, what drives you, what inspires you, how much tenacity you possess, and how bad you want to succeed. No one else knows your dreams, your aspirations, what you want out of life. Only YOU know that.
And as I stated in the beginning, building a successful online business is not easy. You can read a little bit of our story about how my wife and I started our journey online back in 2008. Trust me. It wasn’t easy to make a living online. I struggled for a good 18 months before I ever started seeing a consistent monthly residual income come in that convinced me I was finally on the right path to success.
And you know what?
It would have been easy for me to give up anywhere within that 18 month timeline. And most people do. That is why, as stated earlier, only 2 – 3% of people who start an online business actually succeed online.
You see, the absolute truth is that if you decide to start an online business, you will have hard knocks along the way. You will have more failures than successes in the beginning. In fact, you may have NO successes in the beginning, whatever you define that to be.There will be times when you say to yourself that you don’t have the skills you need to succeed, or that you don’t have the time to invest in a business. Maybe money itself will become an excuse, because quite frankly, it is true that if you want to make money, then you need to be willing to spend money.
You will try different things to succeed and one after one will fail. And you will want to pull your hair out with frustration.
You will see money going out and nothing coming in.
You may have a spouse or loved ones telling you constantly that you are wasting your time, that there is no such thing as making money online, that everything is a scam, and you should just focus on your J.O.B. (which stands for Just Over Broke).
These things will happen.
And it’s how you respond to all of these things that will determine whether you succeed or not.
Your willingness to NEVER give up is what will one day lead you to achieving your dreams.
And when you finally start having little successes…when you get that first lead, and then your first sale, your perspective will begin to shift. You will then know without a shadow of a doubt that you can earn money online. And those little successes will begin to turn into bigger successes. And as you begin to learn more and more skills and implement them into your business, your profits will increase and you will be able to tell the world that YOU DID IT!
Do you have what it takes?
Do you have an unquenchable desire to see your dreams fulfilled?
Are you willing to do whatever it takes to live life on your own terms?
Only you know the answer.
Only you can look deep within yourself and really know if you have what it takes to stand above the crowd, to not be average, and make your dreams come true.
My greatest wish for the new year is that you make a decision to live your life on your own terms and share your success with others so that they too can be freed from the forces of evil that hold people back from achieving their true potential.
People have so much more to offer than what they have been led to believe. They just need to have someone show them the way.
Happy New Year to all and may 2014 be a healthy and wealthy new year for YOU!
